St. Anna Catholic Center for Migrants is located in the compound of St. Anna Catholic Church at Tha Chin in the province of Samut Sakorn. The center is helping the foreign migrant workers in their humanity needs such as education, hygiene and cultures of their communities. Most of these workers are Burmese, Mon, Cambodian and etc. The Archdiocese of Bangkok is supporting as its social apostolate to love everyone especially the poor, the underprivileged and the migrant.

 

Objective

  1. To help supporting the foreign migrant workers and their families in their education and hygiene.
  2. To promote the relationship and cultures of the foreign migrant workers in their communities. It will help them to live with others peacefully.
  3. To promote the foreign migrant workers and their families to be able to help themselves.
  4. To promote the dignity of the foreign migrant workers and to decrease their difficulties.

 

Activities

  1. The center is organizing education for the children age 4-12 which are from the families of foreign migrant workers. They study Mathematics and some languages such as Thai, English, Burmese and Mon. The center also takes care of them in hygiene and sociability.

 

  1. Teaching languages for the foreign migrant workers such as a Thai language class on Sunday.

 

  1. Taking care of health, hygiene and HIV by giving some basic knowledge of health cares, communicable diseases and the prevention of HIV. The center operates it by visiting to each family.

 

  1. The center helps promoting the good activities for culture and relationship of the communities which are the basic of social living. It supports the workers and students of the center to have the traditional activities together such as offering the big candle of Buddhist Lent to Bang Ya Praek Temple as it is a tradition of Mon people. This is a way to promote good traditions and cultures and to strengthen the hearts of the people for their daily living. Children can see them and follow when they grow up.

What is the committee of Catholic for women?

The committee of Catholic for women are representatives from various churches in the Archdiocese of Bangkok, member of the pastoral council working together on behalf of the woman for women and children in the Archdiocese of Bangkok. Focus on coordination, support and assist about pastoral care for taking special care of women and children, especially women and children who are physical and mental poor.

 

What do the committee of Catholic for women do?

  1. Help and support the women to gather together to assist the pastoral care with the abbot and the pastoral council
  2. Encourage women to play a key role in creating proximity and stability in the family.
  3. Interest in helping women and children who need help in both physically and mentally.
  4. Assist friends, the fellow citizens who are underprivileged and faced with life's difficulties.

 

How the committee of Catholic for women work?

  1. Coordinate with the abbot and pastoral council to achieve women's union of the church. The purpose of the coordinate is to helping and cooperate with the church’sactivities.
  2. Coordinate with the state of Catholic Church, the private sector and government sector for helping underprivileged people.
  3. Arrange the women's group meeting in the church, district and diocese levels for working in the same direction.

 

Who does the committee of Catholic for women work with?

  1. Women who are ready to work for the common good on behalf of the church, district, and archdiocese.
  2. The abbot, pastoral council and other organizations that related to the pastoral care.

 

Framework

 

  • To promote social, ethical, moral, spiritual values and health for any interested women in or outside the parishes.
  • To implement activities for women in target populations. For example women volunteers visit women in prisons.
  • To collaborate with other religious, public or private organizations working for the benefits of women.

Mission

  1. To support setting up various women groups in the level of parishes.
  2. To establish pastoral district committees for women and to promote the collaboration between those committees and laity association.
  3. To organize seminars on various topics for women in the diocese two times per year.
