STRATEGY

1. To inform about the situation of the poor and provide opportunities for others to experience as well as to elevate the quality of live of the poor

2. To coordinate with the 6 pastoral districts and their parishes in the Bangkok Archdiocese, and with other organizations to increase participation in social works.

3. To educate the church's social teaching, including "God is Love" (Deus Caritas est) and "Love in the Truth" (Caritas in Veritate) per Pope Benedict 16 and "Praise the Lord"(Laudato Si') "on the care for the world, our common home" per Pope Francis.

4. To ensure continuous posts by the local volunteers int various projects for the parishes.
5. To help each pastoral district to have a Parish Caritas committee and /or to enable the parish to operate projects that are relevant to itself and to the district.

6. To visit and encourage male female prisoners, and porvide vocational training for them to prepare for life after prison.

7. To continue development and progress in projects relating to imigrant workers(Burmese and Mon) primary education for immigrant children at St.Anna Catholic Center for Migrants.

8. To collaborate with a wide variety of catholic religious orders in the Archdiocese of Bangkok

9. To identify and initiate new projects to address the needs of the poor and disadvantage.

Objectives

 

  1. To promote and support the study of the Church’s social teaching.
  2. To promote and support the works to protect the right and dignity of people.
  3. To promote and support the family institution and local community.
  4. To promote and support the professional development in every level of social works.

 

Geography

 

The Social Department of the Archdiocese of Bangkok is working in the 11 provinces; Bangkok, Nakornpathom, Nonthaburi, Pathumtani, Samut Prakarn, Samut Sakorn, Supanburi, Ayuthaya, Angthong, Chacherngsao (some part) and Nakornnayok (only Baanna District). Churches, schools and communities of Catholic are used as the centers of the works.

 

Health Care

Pastoral Care For the Elders

- Providing assistance to the elderly poor.
- Promote the development of human resources leaders and practitioners.
- Promoting / supporting activities for the elderly on the occasion of holy days. Tradition and culture
- Promote activities that generate income and health care.

Mission

1. The establishment of the Archdiocese of seniors, and the level of measurement.
2. Encourage the diocesan level and county-level two-month / times.
3. Encourage all measured groups / clubs, seniors and ongoing activities.
4. Providing seniors community in the diocese and the 2-year / time.
5. provide useful information to work with the elderly to board level.

Catholic Work for Women

Framework

 

  • To promote social, ethical, moral, spiritual values and health for any interested women in or outside the parishes.
  • To implement activities for women in target populations. For example women volunteers visit women in prisons.
  • To collaborate with other religious, public or private organizations working for the benefits of women.

Mission

  1. To support setting up various women groups in the level of parishes.
  2. To establish pastoral district committees for women and to promote the collaboration between those committees and laity association.
  3. To organize seminars on various topics for women in the diocese two times per year.

 

Pastoral Care For Tourism and Seafarers

Framework

  • To visit seafarers of various nationalities, such as Chinese, Vietnamese or Filipino who work in commercial cargo ships coming from various countries to Thailand.
  • To offer catholic religious services, such as Sunday mass, etc.
  • To advise on spiritual, psychological, or social aspects as well as the culture and traditions of Thailand.
  • To assist the crew in communication with home countries. Also to intervene and advocate on behalf of the crew on various legal matters, such as wages in case the ship companies omit to pay wages, or human trafficking, etc.

 

 

 

Mission

  1. Seafarers

        - To visit from Monday to Friday crews from commercial cargo ships that dock in Klong Toei port.

        - To offer catholic religious services and/or Gospel sharing once per week or as needed.

        - To build relationship with crews from commercial cargo ships or fishermen from fishing industry.

 

  1. Tourists

        - To provide catholic mass schedules and church locations in the area of Bangkok.

        - To assist with other matters, such as lodging in case of robbery, loss of money, passport, etc.
